Small Size Accounting Firm:
Easier to accumulate enough experience and resource to start your own CPA
Firm in long run.Not a good start. Hard to exit to large corporate
management positions. Hard to transfer to big accounting firm for same
level.Fit for those who have strong desire to start their own business
Hourly rate Low. But can be very good if you start your own successfully
Life Work Balance: not good

Big 4 Accounting Firm
Golden mark on resume. Various exit options. Must have experience if you
want large corp sr. mgt position. Hard to Accumulate experience and
resources to start your own. Have to handle ridiculous hours with smiles
always on face. Hierarchy military mgt style doesn't fit everyone. Pro is
also very obvious---Before manager promotion is almost guaranteed. CAN GAIN
MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE AS EARLY AS SENIOR LEVEL (this is very important. if
you join corporate, you don't gain people mgt experience until you are
really managers). Fit for 乖乖女---Big smile, big talk, small thought, zero
complain. Those who enjoy follow procedures and orders. Talk what others'
talking, do what others do----- "team player" Compensation OK, but not as
high as corporate at same level Life Work Balance : you know it (^^)

Middle Size Accounting Firm:
Easier to exist to middle sized private company as managers. Good rounded
accounting experience.Maybe hard to exist to large corporate management
position but easily get management positions in small to middle private
companies. Fit for who is not too aggressive not too obedience. Compensate
not good.Life Work Balance: could be good depends on firm culture.

Corporate Accounting:
Stable, Easy life style.Depends on company culture, some promote their own,
some recruit from outside. Slow promotion in general. Ex-Big 4 exits
normally was recruited in to take over Sr. mgt role.
Fit for those who is not aggressive. who don't enjoy challenge. OK with
doing the same niche job day by day. OK with slow or zero promotion depends
on luck and spots' availability. Not too bad by hourly rate
Normally very leisure, many work from home after long time stay in the same
company.

Overall, if you look for money, go to small firm and start your own (average
income mid $100k, for those successful $300k is not unusual). if you look
for leisure, go to corporate. if you look for ranks in corporate America, go
big four, but even after you successfully get sr. mgt position in large
corporate, $200k salary would be top (rarely reach $300k) and the journey is
very very long.
