TGIF

A seasoned navigator of the ocean of humanity, I surfed the waves of the
Friday morning rush hour with confident agility, dexterity, and maybe some
gusto as well. I passed several clueless tourists, some sales reps with
oversized luggage, and an innocent-looking Jersey girl.

Ascended from the track level, I reached the main concourse. Near the west
side, I heard familiar tunes: the Four Seasons by Vivaldi. They must be the
same Black string quartet I passed by several days ago. But they drifted
from the east end of the concourse to the center this morning.

After a dreamless night, and uneventful morning train ride, whimsically, I
decided to let myself drift to the quartet, transporting myself to a
different existence.

I remembered the first time I listened to the Four Seasons: that’s in the
TV show Cosmos. A charismatic Carl Sagan rode a bike in a mountainous
Italian town, describing the life and works of Galileo and other scientific
giants. A sunny trail on a bike, scenery charming towns, and friendly
country folks, always pop up in my mind when I hear these baroque tunes.

With the tunes and the memories they conjured up, I stayed transfixed for
quite a while. Out of the trance, I threw some dollar bills to the overflown
cello case, collected myself, and plunged right back into the waves of
morning rush. The enameled aroma of a nearby Starbuck concession justifiably
sweetened the morning delight.

TGIF, a day of hope and idle thoughts. Life is beautiful.
